Now that I’ve shared my Bible study group with my coworkers, and the meaning of the phrase Hugs from Heaven, I’d like to tell you more about some of the wonderful things we’ve learned. One of our supervisors, who normally works first shift, started working second shift for a couple of weeks to help out. While she was on second shift, she began coming to the second shift group meeting. She was so excited to share her testimony. She spoke of all the work God has been doing in her life. During one of her visits, she recommended that we pray choosing a single word or phrase for the year. She suggested that we select one that was special to each of us, or maybe based on an area we wanted to grow.
After several days of prayer and reflection, I chose “Abba Father,” an Aramaic word similar to our word Daddy. I was seven years old and Shari was four when our Daddy passed away from a brain aneurysm. He was only twenty-seven and left behind six young children. I am grateful to have some memories to treasure of him. Sadly, some of my younger siblings do not.
Growing up without a Daddy to guide and love me, I yearned for a close relationship with our Heavenly Father. Mt Heavenly Father knows me better than anyone. He created me. He knows how many hairs are on my head. He sees me when I succeed and when I fail. He loves me through it all. I want to be close enough to Him that I see Him as “Daddy, Abba Father”.
I’ve been reading a few verses in my Bible most nights before bed. It reconnects me to the truth and what’s important and to be honest, helps me to sleep better. These past few weeks, I’ve been reading in whatever chapter pops in my head and the other night, it was Romans 8. “Those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons (and daughters) of God”. I read on and there it was, “You received the Spirit of son-ship, and by Him we cry “Abba Father”. What a beautiful Hug from Heaven, from my Heavenly Daddy! What a joyful, powerful, peaceful feeling!
Is that you will draw ever closer to Him through His word. Maybe pick a word or phrase. God will use that phrase to reassure you, to shape you & show you His unconditional everlasting love He has for you.
